REALB records increase in sales agents

The Real Estate Agents Licensing Board (REALB) has recorded an increase in sales agent and saw a decrease in salesperson.

Chief Registrar Peni Komainavoka said currently there are 266 registered salespersons and 98 agents for the year 2024.

 

REALB recorded a total of 93 agents as at December 31, 2023 whilst the number stood at 84 during the same period in 2022.

As such, a 10.7 per cent increase in the number of agents was noted in 2023 compared to 2022.

 

“The number has increased compared to last year because majority of the salespersons who have met the criteria’s of a three  years’ experience have applied/opened up their own real estate agency/business,” Mr Komainavoka said.

 

“On the other hand, a decrease in the number of salespersons were recorded as at 31 December 2023 compared to 2022.

 

The number of salespersons decreased from 319 in 2022 to 268 in 2023.

 

“As stated above, the salespersons that had completed their three years’ experience had moved up to apply for agents license or they may have left the industry to purchase other ventures,” he said.

 

Real estate agents

A real estate agent is a licensed professional who arranges property transactions, connects buyers and sellers, and represents them in negotiations.

 

A real estate agents research typically involves studying market trends, property values, local zoning laws, neighborhood features, and marketing strategies. They also keep abreast of the latest real estate laws and regulations.

 

Salesperson

A Real Estate salesperson, under the supervision of a licensed Real Estate Broker, facilitates the purchase and sale of property on behalf of customers, obtains lists of property for sale with employing broker; assists buyers (customers) of real estate to locate and purchase (listed with employing brokers or another broker).

 

A real estate salesperson associated with a real estate broker to list and negotiate the sale, lease or rental of real property for others for compensation, under the direction and guidance of a responsible broker.

 

A salesperson cannot operate independently.

 

It is the responsibility of licensees to understand the Real Estate License Law.
